Navigating the "In-Between" Years: Helping Our Kids Find Their Confidence
If you are the parent of a child between the ages of 10 and 14, you know that this season of life is a major transition. It is the bridge between childhood and the teenage years, and frankly, the crossing can be a little bumpy. If you reflect on your experiences at this stage of life, I’m sure you remember moments when the world felt in crisis due to a lost friendship, being ignored, or being bullied at school.
One day, our kids are carefree; the next, they seem burdened by the weight of the world.
As parents, we often see the side effects of this transition. It shows up as perfectionism over grades, withdrawal from family time, sudden friendship drama, or simply a lack of the self-confidence they once had.
It is normal for kids in this age range to feel overwhelmed. They are navigating more complex social circles, higher academic expectations, and their own changing identity—all at once. These hurdles can disrupt their sleep, interfere with making friends, and become an obstacle to healthy risk-taking.
If you have noticed your child holding back, stressing out, or feeling isolated, we want to offer a helping hand.
Introducing: BRAVE
Building Resilience, Confidence, and Connection
We are excited to invite your child to join BRAVE, a group specifically designed for students ages 10–14.
While anxiety is often a part of the picture, BRAVE is about more than just worry. It is about equipping pre-teens and young teens with the emotional toolkit they need to navigate all the challenges of growing up.
What Happens at BRAVE?
We provide a supportive environment where students can step out of their shells and realize they aren't the only ones trying to figure this all out.
Here is what your child can expect:
Real Connection: Peer pressure and social dynamics are tough. We create a space where students can practice positive social skills and realize they are not alone in their struggles.
Tools for Stress: Whether it’s a math test or a friendship tiff, we teach practical coping strategies to handle stress and regulate big emotions.
Interactive Fun: This isn't a classroom lecture. We use engaging activities to make emotional learning active and enjoyable.
A Voice for their Thoughts: A judgment-free zone where they can express their feelings, frustrations, and hopes without fear of being graded or critiqued.
The goal of BRAVE is to help your child clear the obstacles standing in their way. We want to see them raise their hand in class, navigate friendships with kindness, and handle setbacks with resilience. We want to help them be brave enough to be themselves.
If you think your child would benefit from a confidence boost and a supportive community, we would welcome them. Please reach out to us at Heritage Counseling to get more information or begin the process of signing them up.
